Von der Ästhetik des Verfalls

An dieser Stelle erscheint künftig immer mal wieder ein Hinweis auf allgemeine Theorie zu diesem Projekt. Heute eine nette Fundsache (Dank an Fabian): The Beauty of Decaying Books. Der Autor schreibt u.a.:

I found [decaying books] strangely beautiful, each one decaying in a different way, and showing the signs not just of their lifetime but also of the times and places in which they were made.

Hier wird also das materielle Artefakt betrachtet – in seiner Qualität als potentell verfallende Materie.

Diesen Aspekt thematisiert auch das KeinBuch sehr hübsch. Es setzt die alten bildungsbürgerlichen Werte außer Kraft, dass Bücher schützenswerte Träger der kulturellen Tradition sind. Der Verfall wird aktiv zelebriert. Und damit wird die Materialität unmittelbar erfahrbar:. Der Autor des o.g. Textes vergleicht Bücher mit digitalen Texten:

I can only read those digitized texts, not sense them. Their form is rather uniform. They don’t live with me in this world. They only exist for a tiny fraction of my sensory apparatus, and nothing of this world has an impact on them. They don’t age. The point is – they lack pleasurable aspects beyond the text itself.
